Samaritans 2nd Annual BE A FRIEND 5K Walkathon on September 19 was a huge success with over 400 current and former volunteers, supporters, suicide survivors and their friends, family members and colleagues raising over $35,000.

Taking place on the beautiful Hudson River Park in Lower Manhattan on a lovely Saturday morning, people walked, ran or strolled in the sparkling sunshine in support of Samaritans 24-hour crisis response hotline, support groups for survivors of suicide loss and public education, community awareness and advocacy programs.

Participants came from every walk of life from throughout the NYC-Metropolitan area to demonstrate their support for an important cause that celebrates compassion, camaraderie and the human spirit. And the sumptuous brunch at the lively and colorful South West NY provided a fitting gathering spot where people could relax and make new friends at the event’s conclusion.
