This professional development training for over 200 NYC school and community-based health providers presented in association with the NYU Child Study Center on January 29 focused on the challenges caregivers face responding to young people’s mental health, especially with regard to increases in self-harming and suicidal behavior.

Hosted by Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center in the Bronx, this all-day intensive training provided key statistics and trends tied to youth mental health, an in-depth understanding of the  mood and anxiety disorders most frequently observed in youth as well as the keys to distinguishing between non-suicidal and suicidal self injury that can be so difficult assessing.
There was also time dedicated to the difficulties health providers face themselves when responding to and attempting to engage student/consumer family members and caregivers as well as approaches and methods that have proved effective in enhancing their personal comfort and effectiveness in performing their jobs.
